Learn about Suminagashi watercolor art

The Japanese ancient painting Suminagashi painting is a technique of painting on water. The pictures ware painted on the water, then a piece of paper or cloth so that the painted material will be up on the surface to create images painted on the water.

 
From Suminagashi in Japanese means "floating ink", this is a special ink used to paint watercolors. The watercolor technique is painted on the water like floating oil, and then the artist carefully dabs the surface of the object to print the image into the water, the floating ink will stick to the surface and create into a complete work.
